How luxury watch landed Arnold Schwarzenegger in three hours detention

Terminator actor, Arnold Schwarzenegger was detained on Wednesday by customs officers at Munich airport following an issue relating to a luxury watch that he owns.

The 76-year-old starred in the ‘Terminator’ film series. He was taken away for questioning by airport officials after an issue arose at customs.

The former governor of California was held for three hours while he answered questions about the luxury wristwatch he wore.

The Audemars Piguet watch, a luxury Swiss brand, is said to be worth more than $21,000. It is gathered that the actor considered auctioning off the watch for his charity in the town of Kitzbuhel in his native Austria.

Criminal proceedings

Munich’s customs spokesman Thomas Meister, revealed that criminal proceedings were opened against Schwarzenegger.
This is because the watch had not been registered.

According to a source Schwarzenegger was “never asked to fill out a declaration form” and “answered every question from customs officers honestly.”

“He cooperated at every step even though it was an incompetent shakedown, a total comedy of errors that would make a very funny cop movie,” the source said.

Schwarzenegger was later seen holding the watch and smiling while posing for photographs. But it is believed he was left frustrated by the delays during his temporary detention.

The auction

It is reported that the Hollywood actor, who has lived in the U.S since 1968, agreed to pre-pay potential taxes on the watch.

However, issues arose with a credit card machine, which elongated the time of his detention. He was taken to an ATM to withdraw the amount, but that method failed as the amount exceeded the withdrawal limit.

Schwarzenegger was later released after another credit card machine was found and he was able to make the payment. He planned to auction off his jewellery on Thursday.
