Stephen Richard Wright, better known as Steve Wright was a renowned radio presenter and disc jockey. He was born on 26 August 1954 and unexpectedly passed away on 12 February 2024 at 69. Who are Steve Wright children? Did he leave any children behind? Let’s find out.

Steve Wright Career Outside Radio

Wright was a frequent host on Top of the Pops from 1980 to 1989. From 1994 to 1995, Wright also hosted The Steve Wright People Show on BBC TV.

His third tenure on television ran from 1997 to 2009, when he was the creator and narrator of the vintage pop series Top of the Pops 2.

He presented the Michael Jackson special broadcast on June 27, 2009, as the final episode of TOTP2.

As a radio host for BBC Radio 1, Wright collaborated with members of his drive-time radio team, the Afternoon Posse, on several UK chart hits. One such song was the UK Top 10 hit “I’ll Be Back,” which included Wright as a member of the backing band, “the Terminaters,” on the August 29, 1991, episode of BBC One’s Top of the Pops.


Wright received recognition for his work, including the 1994 Smash Hits and Daily Mirror Readers Poll Best DJ of the Year awards. For his radio shows, he was named TRIC Personality of the Year in 1998.

For his contributions to radio, Wright received an appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2024 New Year’s Honors.

Steve Wright was married to Cyndi Robinson and they had two children together during their 14 years of marriage. Their names are Lucy and Tom.

Before Steve Wright passed away, Tom, the late DJ’s son, claimed to have had the opportunity to come to know his father in a manner “he never had.”

Club promoter Tom Wright said he wanted to continue his father’s “legacy of kindness” and that he flew from his base in Los Angeles to be with him in the final days of his life.
