Steinar Bastesen cause of death: How did the politician die?

Steinar Bastesen was a politician, whaler, and fisherman from Norway born on 26 March 1945. As an independent, he was first elected to the Norwegian Storting in 1997. In 1999, he formed the Coastal Party. From the party’s establishment until March 2005, when internal conflicts among the members compelled him to step down, he served as its leader. For the next six months, until the 2005 election, Bastesen remained a member of the Storting. He died on 18 February 2024 and the purpose of this article is to unveil Steinar Bastesen cause of death.

Career Highlight

In the late 1970s, Bastesen got actively involved in local politics and industry. He went on to hold elected posts in the fish sales organisation, Norges Råfisklag, and the organisation representing fishermen in Norway, Norges Fiskarlag.

From 1984 to 1996, he served as the head of the whalers’ association, Norges Sm√•kvalfangerlag. He was involved in local politics in the 1980s, first for the Conservative Party and then the Centre Party.

He later entered politics as a member of parliament, serving for the Coastal Party from 2001 to 2005 and the Non-Partisan Deputies from 1997 to 2001. After internal conflicts caused him to step down as leader in 2005, he was eventually expelled from the party entirely in 2008.

In 2009, he made a brief attempt to rejoin the Non-Partisan Deputies, but he was unable to secure the necessary votes. In 2017, he rejoined the Coastal Party, however this time around, he was unable to secure enough votes to win office.

At the age of 78, Bastesen passed away in a drowning accident close to his residence on February 18, 2024.

Throughout the last decades of his life, Bastesen battled health problems, which he subsequently attributed to an unhealthy lifestyle, binge drinking, and overscheduling. Bastesen had a string of strokes in late 2001 that sent him to the hospital for several months. He, however. eventually recovered completely.

He experienced a little stroke once more in 2009 while commemorating his 64th birthday, but he bounced back swiftly. Steiner was given a prostate cancer diagnosis shortly after, but he recovered completely. To prevent additional health problems, Bastesen started working out and made lifestyle changes, which resulted in a 30 kg (66 lb) weight loss.
