He gained notoriety as a leading fast bowler in first-class cricket and went on to take 1417 wickets at an average of 19.53 in 401 first-class matches. Mike also shown his skill with the ball in List A cricket, taking 344 wickets at an amazing average of 18.76.

Along with Don Bradman and C. B. Fry, Procter became known as one of the greatest batsmen of his age, becoming just the third player in first class cricket history to hit six straight centuries.

When Procter played English County cricket for Gloucestershire, the team was lovingly dubbed “Proctershire” because he amassed over 20,000 runs and took over 1,000 wickets.

In addition, Procter was one of just three Gloucestershire players to score a century and claim a hat-trick in the same game. He is still the only player to accomplish this rare feat twice for the team, having done it against Essex in 1972 and Leicestershire in 1979.

Proctor suffered a heart collapse on February 12, 2024, and was admitted to the intensive care unit of Busamed uMhlanga Hospital in Durban. It was discovered that during a routine procedure, his health started to deteriorate and his situation got more complicated. He died on February 17, 2024 at the age of 77.
