Life is indeed unpredictable, or, should we say unknown?, the rare story of Kara Kora Monaco, who went from Disney princess to Playmate of the Year in a very short time only confirms this.
That journey to fame cost Kara after she was blacklisted by Disney, although she became a Playmate in 2006, she never gave a second thought about the possibility of returning to Disney World.
It was Playboy Magazine that opened the doors for Kara to travel around the world,
She later paved her way into several reality shows such as ‘The Girls Next Door’, ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ and ‘Big Brother’.
Now 40 years old, Kara appeared on the ‘Girls Next Level’ podcast.
The podcast is hosted by Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt.
During her appearance on the show, Kara talked about how she went from being a Disney princess to the cover of Playboy.
A unique story
At a very young age, Kara moved to Orlando, where she ended up working at Disney World.
She was given the role of a princess character. But after working there for four years, she decided to become a model and worked as a waitress to make ends meet.
While working there, a friend recommended she enter a competition for ‘America’s Sexiest Bartender’ in 2004 for Playboy.
According to Kara, “I was a bartender in downtown Orlando and my friend, who worked with me, wanted to be in Playboy more than anything in the world, but she never got picked to shoot.”
“She would try to send them and say, ‘You have this look that they like.’ So she sent my photos, unbeknownst to me, and then they called me and said, ‘We want to do a shoot with you’.”
After hesitating at first, Kara went to the photoshoot and won the contest and was asked to become an official Playmate.
In June 2005, she was chosen as Playmate of the Month and a year later appeared on the cover as Playmate of the Year 2006.
But then, her nude photo shoots baffled Kara’s family.
“I would say they were surprised because I’m pretty conservative and shy, so I was way out of my comfort zone,” she added. “So I think most people who knew me were really surprised, but everyone was very supportive.”
Disney didn’t like Kara’s new profession and they decided to blacklist her – preventing her from getting another job.
“Obviously Disney didn’t like it, they weren’t happy. I think they even called the Magic Kingdom rep and wanted him to comment and he chose not to comment,” Kara said. “Some of my friends that I worked with at Disney said, ‘You’re definitely blacklisted,’ and I said, ‘Oh, well’.”
These days, Kara is a mother to a baby girl and an event planner in Florida, but the title of Playmate of the Year 2006 will never be taken away from her.
