Idris Ali was an Indian politician from Basirhat, West Bengal, who served as a member of parliament for the 16th Lok Sabha. He was born on 26 March 1945. Who was Idris Ali?

On December 30, 1950, Idris Ali was born. He attended Surendranath Law College and St. Paul’s Cathedral Mission College.

Ali joined the Indian National Congress to begin his political career. On the platform of the All India Trinamool Congress, he was chosen to represent the Basirhat constituency in parliament at the 2014 Indian general election. His victory margin was 109,000 votes.

Ali reported to the police in January 2017 that he had received a death threat over the phone. The caller, he claimed, was a Bengali from Dubai who had threatened to kill Ali for his support of the Trinamool Congress.

Mamata Banerjee declared on March 13, 2019, that Ali would not run in the next general election.

While protesting Bangladeshi novelist Taslima Nasreen in 2007, Ali was charged with instigating violence in the Park Circus neighborhood. Despite being taken into custody and having a charge sheet against him, he was freed on bail.

On February 13, 2024, Ali was rushed to a private hospital in Howrah due to breathing difficulties. He passed away on February 16, 2024, at the age of 73 from a number of ailments. His wife, two children, and one son survived him.
