Who was Hector Ortiz?

Ortiz was born in Río Piedras and went to Luis Hernaiz Verone High School in Canovanas, Puerto Rico. Ortiz attended Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas, as well as Ranger College in Ranger, Texas.

He was chosen in the 35th round of the 1988 Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Ortiz’s professional career spanned the years 1988–2005. After retiring in 2005, Ortiz was brought back by the Texas Rangers to serve as a minor league coach.

He also managed Class A South Atlantic League’s Hickory Crawdads, Arizona Rangers,  Puerto Rican Winter League, and Texas Rangers until he was fired after the season in 2020.
