The 83-year-old Duncan Fearnley was a Worcestershire journeyman cricket player in the 1960s who became wealthy by creating cricket bats that were sold all over the world under his own brand. Who are Duncan Fearnley children? Check it out in this article.

Early Life and Career

Fearnley was born in Yorkshire, at Pudsey. After playing for the England Schoolboys team in 1955, he dreamed of becoming a professional cricket player. However, to help him out financially, he started manufacturing cricket bats in the winter.

Fearnley initially marketed his bats as “Tudor Rose,” but they quickly acquired the moniker “Fearnley of Farsley.”

Fearnley was only able to play twice for Yorkshire’s second XI in 1959 after failing to break into his native county’s first XI. After looking for opportunities elsewhere, he joined Worcestershire in 1960 and played second XI cricket for two more seasons before making his first-class debut in 1962.

After playing three seasons of Minor Counties cricket for Lincolnshire, Fearnley left Worcestershire at the end of 1968. He later returned to Worcestershire to captain the second XI in 1972.

Fearnley was instrumental in bringing Ian Botham and Graham Dilley to the county ahead of the 1987 season after he was elected chairman of Worcestershire in 1986. The club saw its greatest stretch of success in its history, winning six trophies, while he served as chairman. He was a member of the county committee after resigning from the position in 1998. From 2011 to 2013, he would go on to represent the county as Club President.

Fearnley was one of the founders of Chance to Shine, the cricket charity, together with Mark Nicholas and Mervyn King.
