Who was Charles Swini?

Swini was playing for CIVO United, a top team in the TNM Super League, since 2020. The player also played for Escom United, Silver Strikers and UD Songo.

The player was born on February 28, 1985, in Blantyre, Malawi. He passed just a week before his 39th birthday.

Swini represented his country in the 2010 African Cup of Nations tournament in Luanda, Angola.

Meanwhile, football authorities in Malawi have been reacting to the news. The General Secretary of the Football Association of Malawi, Alfred Gunda, in a statement said: “In this sorrowful time, we would like to extend to the family of Swini our heartfelt condolences. May our Lord comfort you and your loved ones in these trying times. Our prayer is that the soul of Charles should rest in eternal peace.”

The cause of death of the late CIVO United goalkeeper is kidney stone. Sources close to the footballer’s family revealed that Swini had been battling with the ailment for a long time.

On Tuesday, he collapsed at home and was rushed to the Kamuzu Central Hospital. However, his life could not be saved despite efforts by doctors to revive him.

Meanwhile, it is not immediately known if he is survived by a wife or children, as information about his personal life remain scarce.
