Starring in Quentin Tarantino’s final film The Movie Critic
Reportedly Quentin Tarantino’s final project, the forthcoming Los Angeles-based film is situated in 1977 and revolves around a critic employed by the fictitious publication named The Popstar Pages. Tarantino disclosed that the storyline is inspired by “a real-life individual who remained relatively obscure despite his occupation of writing movie reviews for an adult magazine.” Tarantino elaborated, describing the subject as “unapologetically impolite, employing coarse language and racial epithets, yet his critiques possessed a humorous edge.”
The specific role Brad Pitt will undertake remains uncertain.
Speaking to Deadline during last year’s Cannes film festival, Tarantino described the character as a “second-string critic” who predominantly critiqued mainstream films. He praised the character’s cynicism and likened his reviews to a blend of early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might produce if he were a film critic.
Tarantino had previously indicated that the lead would likely be around 35 years old, representing a new leading figure for him.
Acknowledging Pitt as “one of the last remaining big-screen movie stars,” the writer-director highlighted the global success of “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” which grossed $377 million worldwide.
Recently, Pitt headlined the action thriller “Bullet Train” and the showbiz drama “Babylon.” His upcoming projects include the Apple thriller “Wolfs,” co-starring George Clooney, and an untitled F1 movie directed by Joseph Kosinski, featuring Javier Bardem and Damson Idris.
