If truly life always gives one a second chance to prove himself as they say, then the movie, ‘I Am Legend 2’ offers Will Smith that chance on a platter.
You see, the actor has been at the center of controversy for the last two years, and the producers of the 2007 film who dishonored Richard Matheson’s intended ending.
There is only one thing Smith has to do, he must hold on tight to his role in ‘I Am Legend 2’ if he wants to get back to his old Hollywood self. The Oscar slap which landed on Chris Rock‘s face at the Oscars ceremony was a big moment in his career.
It tarnished his award for his role in ‘King Richard’ as well as almost black-listing him.
In the movie, the theatrical release had Robert Neville blow himself up and the infected. In the book, he is killed after realizing the vampires are closer to human and are sophisticated. He dies as a villain.
The sequel has already undone the theatrical ending but we will need to wait to see whether it will follow the alternative ending or produce a new conclusion to the 2007 hit.
Will Smith’s failure
There is a role that hurt Will Smith even more than his slap or Jada Pinkett Smith. The American actor has been in countless films that have been passed down from generation to generation, but ‘After Earth’ doesn’t look like it’s going to be one of them.
The actor who rose to fame for his role in ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ has not returned to work with his son.
Younger Smith, on the other hand seems to be busy since then, he is more focused on his music career than on the big screen.
Smith said, “Wild Wild West was less painful than After Earth,” Smith said to media. “Because my son was involved in After Earth, and I brought him into it. That was excruciating.
“I stopped working for a year and a half, and I had to immerse myself in why it was so important to have number one movies at the box office. I had never looked at myself that way.”
