2024 Grammys: Burna Boy set to make history as First African Singer To Perform At Grammys Live Event

Born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, Burna Boy is a famous Nigerian singer-songwriter and record producer, a superb Nigerian vocalist who has received widespread acclaim throughout his career.

The self acclaimed African Giant has been in the music industry for a long time, with significant success, he has received critical acclaim for his albums and songs.

Now, the energetic singer is set to make history as the first African artiste to perform at the Grammys live recording award show.

About Burna

Odogwu, as fondly called by his fans, is a very famous and prosperous personality in Nigeria.
Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, on July 2, 1991, Burna Boy spent the majority of his childhood in Southern Nigeria.
There, he lived with his mother, Bose Ogulu, who now plays the role of a mother and manager to him.
As a language translator, Bose has aided Burna greatly in his profession. His father formerly worked for a welding company.

Ogulu began making music at a young age. He began making music with Fruityloops and was fairly successful.
Soon, he travelled to London to further his studies and learn more about music.

Burna Boy attended Corona High School. After finishing high school, he enrolled at the University of Sussex were he studied media technology.
Soon after, he transferred to Oxford Brookes University to study media communications and culture.

Personal Life

Burna Boy is single and yet to tie the knot.
He was in a public relationship with Stefflon Don, a 28 year old English rapper, singer, and songwriter. They started dating since early 2019.

Their relationship started in Ghana in 2018 when Stefflon Don attended a musical show after missing her flight.
She saw Burna Boy perform, and they later met, and their love story began.
Also, Burna Boy once had a relationship with a British woman named Jo Pearl.
The relationship is believed to have lasted for two years.

Career

Burna Boy has recorded a high success in his music career. He is undoubtedly one of the biggest, if not the biggest artists in Africa as at the moment.

Burna recorded two mixtapes, Burn Notice and Burn Identity, after learning how to make beats with Fruity Loops and signing to Aristokrat Records.
In 2012, he launched the popular song “Like To Party” on this label. The song gained widespread acceptance and in no time catapulted him into the spotlight.

The first track of his debut studio album, LIFE, which was released on August 12, 2013, is called “Like To Party.”
The album also included the number-one hits Run My Race, Yawa Dey, Always Love You, and Tonight.
Burna Boy was nominated for The Headies’ 2013 Next Rated Artiste award. However, he lost the award to his colleague, Sean Tizzle.

At the 2014 Nigerian Entertainment Awards, his debut album L.I.F.E was nominated for Best Album Of The Year.

The 2024 Grammy

The Recording Academy, in a terse statement via X on Monday, January 22, 2024, disclosed that Burna Boy has been added to the performer lineup for the 2024 Grammys.

The ‘African Giant’ crooner was announced alongside Luke Combs and Travis Scott.

“Attention: African Giant @BurnaBoy will take the #GRAMMYs stage on Sunday, February 4 at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT on @CBS,” the Grammy organisers wrote on their X handle.

Other performers earlier announced include Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa.
